Why do we Offer French Fine Wines in Glass-size Bottles?

By Nicolas Deffrennes – President and Founder

During my time on the Harvard campus, I joined the university’s wine club. I was so excited to spend evenings trying exclusive wines from small wineries that few people could access!

Later, back in France, I wanted to offer my American friends the same opportunity—to discover fine wines from France’s best family estates and boutique wineries. My problem? They now lived far away. I felt bad opening a $30 bottle of wine just to have a glass by myself.

So, I created Le Grand Verre, which means a GREAT BIG GLASS, so that I could enjoy fine wines in a single-serve bottle!

With passion, patience and hard work we transformed Le Grand Verre from dream to reality:

Step 1: We visited more than 345 wineries to select the best 40 wines for you focusing on organic wineries and women-led estates! These wines represent France’s best styles, varietals and regions (including world-class Bordeaux and Burgundy).

Step 2: We designed our own 6.3 oz bottles. They are convenient and unbreakable—and they preserve all the flavor! We received an award and funding from the state of Burgundy, where the most prestigious French wines are produced.

Step 3: We created a new experience for you: fine wines you can enjoy in convenient 6.3 oz bottles, and tasting cards that will help you and your friends decipher the complex flavors or each wine. Drinking wine is better together. You can also impress your guests with your unique wine-by-the-glass cellar.
